How Do I Take Cesamet?
Be sure to follow your doctor's directions when taking Cesamet. Also be sure to tell your doctor about any other medicines you are taking.
- Cesamet is a capsule taken by mouth. It may be taken twice a day—1 or 2 capsules at a time. The Cesamet Prescribing Information states that patients usually take 1 or 2 Cesamet capsules twice a day.1
- Patients usually take Cesamet 1 to 3 hours before their chemotherapy is given. Taking a dose the night before chemotherapy may also be helpful. You may take Cesamet for the entire course of each chemotherapy cycle. If you need to, you can also take it for 2 days after the last dose of each cycle.1
- Cesamet can affect your mental state, so you should take it around an adult you trust. This is most important when you first take Cesamet and if your doctor changes your dose.1
- Do not drive, use machines, or do other activities that could be dangerous until you know how Cesamet affects you.1
- Do not drink alcohol, take sleeping pills, or take other medicines that affect your brain while you are taking Cesamet. If you do, the side effects of Cesamet could be worse.1
- Cesamet can be abused, so there are laws about how doctors can prescribe it. Prescriptions for Cesamet should last for just a few days.1
If you have any questions about taking Cesamet, talk to your health care provider.
